Why do people ask "what?!" after you say something, even tho they clearly heard you the first time. I need an answer to this.

Along the same lines . . . have you ever noticed that when people begin to tell you a story in which, "he goes," is the first phrase, they ALWAYS repeat it? i.e,"He goes, he goes ... blah blah blah blah blah blahblahblah."
