your post assumes that everyone you know would all of a sudden have to feel grateful just to be in your presence. While in all likelihood they might well feel this way, its a sh*tty way to behave.
I think there are ways to avoid the spotlight besides just getting out of the country. I'd probly quit my job (if I had one), head to vegas for a bit to party, then travel for some indefinite period of time until I figured out something I wanted to do, but in the immediate period following the big score, there would be much more celebrating, and many fewer contracts/loans. |

OP : you sound like a paranoid tight-ass. Are there risks to you and your family if you win $47Mil and your name/face are plastered everywhere, sure. Do you need to flee the country in secrecy immediately, um, don't think so.
Assuming that it happens in the next 3 months, we wouldn't do much since we've got a baby due on 7/27. So, running off to Vegas or Europe ain't happening. But, I'm quitting my job ASAP. First thing. Absolute first thing. Probably calling my boss as soon as I get confirmation that I'm getting the $$$. Second : call immediate family (parents / brothers) to let them know so they don't hear it on the news. so that's the first hour. The next 3 days will include a financial planner. A lot of notebook paper. A lot of tough discussions with my wife about who in our family to help/take care of and how best to do that (I have a ginormous extended family and she has a few aunts/uncles/cousins). Some of them we'd want to help, others we wouldn't. Its an interesting question, I just don't think that I'd be doing anything drastic up front. It would certainly make summer vacations a lot more fun for us and the kids though! ~FishNChips |

You now have the means to get up and leave, and you now have the ability to live a much more productive, and fulfilling life with your newfound money. Why risk anything at this point? Get out of Dodge, I say! |
