Stuey. how could I not have noticed them what with them wearing their "uniforms" to school on the days when there was a meet? Surely you must remember how weird it was to stand in line in the cafeteria next to some dude with [censored] up ears and nothing but a unitard on. [/ QUOTE ] You gotta be kidding. They did not wear their singlet to school. |

I always found the guys who were scared of the wrestlers would say things like this behind our backs and then when they later got thier asses kicked they would whine. Just like anything else.
Our Basketball team and wrestling team where both district champions my last three years of highschool. I was wrestling 103 pounds and had full run of the school. I would show up at noon because, "I was busy losing weight all morning" then the principle would ask me if I needed a note to get out of any other classes to work out more. We used to have cheerleaders and pep rallys. Plus, alot of girls were pro, um... helping us loses some weight. Something about a guy with 4% body fat benching 200+ pounds they seemed to like. Sure my ears were a little messed up, but they have a pretty easy surgery for that now. I was never a spitter, I tried it a couple of times, but I never could lose the 1/4 pound with it. It did suck to eat two bowls of cereal for your only two meals of the day. I do enjoy the fact that still to this day, I feel pretty confident in any fight (though I havn't been in a real one in five years). |

I never wrestled. In fact, our school didn't even have a wrestling team so I can't comment on the standing of wrestlers in the high school social hierarchy. I do think they're phenomenal athletes with incredible conditioning, but I'm definitely with [censored] on the unitard thing. Wtf is with that?

No one could stink up a locker room like wrestlers. Just thinking about the b.o. generated by a couple dozen guys trying to sweat off another 3 pounds makes me queasy.
I still know 2 guys that wrestled in high school (20 years ago now) and both have neck/back issues, but at least their ears are normal looking. Our guys didn't wear unitards in school, probably because they were still trying to sweat off another pound or whatever. Bender: I have such a deep admiration for guys who role around on the floor with other guys. Andrew: You'd never miss it. You don't have any goals. Bender: Oh, but I do. I want to be just like you. I figure all I need is a lobotomy and some tights. Brian: You wear tights? Andrew: No, I do not wear tights. I wear the required uniform. Brian: Tights. Andrew: Shut up! |

i never wrestled buta good friend of mine from cc and track was a 4 time state wrestler and i found it fun to watch because I am super weak being a distance runner and all. I probably should have wrestled if for no other reason than to stay in shape int he off season so I dont have too strong of feelings either way maybe slightly for it being ok and not fitting censoredes definition

I wrestled in HS and my first year of college until I decided it was too much dedication to excel at the collegiate level.
First off - we didn't wear singlet's to school - EVER. Only on the day of a match, we had a dress code where we had to wear a tie . Secondly - we never had to do anything like sell candy bars or anything to raise money. We had a long tradition at my high school of a great wrestling program. Our coach was a national champ in college too, FWIW. Lastly and probably most importantly - we had a kickline for our meets (cheerleaders were at basketball) and wrestling did get me laid - with more than a few different girls in HS. Anyway, what I liked about wrestling: Totally dependant on your performance. No one else to blame or credit for your wins or losses. Incredible amounts of energy expended in a short period of time. Best conditioning for any HS sport that I know of. What I didn't like: Unhealthily dropping weight to be competitive, the freaking smell of the wrestling room, singlets. Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it seems like wrestling is one of those sports that is not universally constant in US high schools - but dependant on region and wrestling program's success or lack their of. |

[censored] - please note how 27.3% of all a-hole high school wrestlers grow up to be a-hole cops.
