[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Nolan Ryan is, in all likelihood, the most overrated player of all time. [/ QUOTE ] OK, I've stayed out of this so far. You're a stat guy Jack, what are you basing this on? I do not claim he's the best ever, or anything like that. If it's the fan voting from the Mastercard thing, then meh. [/ QUOTE ] Two players have been elected to the HOF by a 99% vote: Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan. Let's be reasonable. Nolan Ryan was unlike any other pitcher ever - but he was far inferior to many pitchers. Nolan's probably not even in the top 25 all time. Maybe he's in the top 50. [/ QUOTE ] I think top 50 could easily be argued. Top-25, yeah, that's tougher. But beating up Robin Ventura puts him in. The reason this argument is so futile, is because it's hard to compare eras of "overrated-ness" due to the media coverage. The primary reason Ryan is considered "overrated" in my opinion, is the fact that he just happened to set his career marks - 5000 k's, 6th and 7th no hitters - in a period where media coverage was much different than earlier in his career. Anyway, I don't disagree he had his flaws. But he still rules in my book. |
