You need to rethink the types of hands you want to call with even in position against players who might play laggier preflop but not postflop as much, and when your call doesn't close the action. I would rather have 87s here instead of K9s for many reasons, although there are reasons you wouldn't even want to call with that behind laggier players who don't dump postflop.

As played, I would certainly have bet the flop like you did. But once called in 3 spots, regardless of what came, I would have been through with the hand more often than not. And on the river, your call doesn't complete the action and too many hands beat you especially since he was willing to bet with 3 other players in the pot. The worst I would put him on is AK, even if you don't think he would check the flop with it.
