Don't they take 3 percent from the prize pool? That means he's already tipped far more than is necessary.

each down dealt is a share of that 2% rake. one dealer figured the most any one dealer made was 12k. this is not an average but an estimate of the amount the dealer with the most downs received. [/ QUOTE ] 12k for 7 days (or even 6 weeks if that's what you're referring to) is pretty [censored] good. |

Give the man a break. When traveling it is very difficult to know how much to tip in different situations in different countries.
How the **** is an Australian supposed to know how much it is normal to tip in American poker tournies? Do you know how much you are expected to tip in Rumanian taxis? EDIT: And don't give me that "I tip everyone everywhere". In many situations in many countries tiping is considered an insult. |

[ QUOTE ]
When you get room service now, hotels put 18% tip on automatically. Then they leave you a spot for an addition tip. If you ask most waiters they'll say all of the 18% doesn't go to them. This guy gave $150,000. to the staff and $300,000. to the hotel. If he'd won the whole $7,950,000. and tipped $100,000. everyone would have been happy. The players continue to get screwed every which way and if a guy makes an act of a tired man who had been playing poker for 8 days and gives the final dealer $100 everybody is all over him. Give him back his $450,000. and then come down on him. Do you have any idea of how much money Harrahs made from this event and how little they gave the players in return. [/ QUOTE ] The point is that in this case when you ask the waiter, he tells you the tip doesnt go to him. Whereas if you asked the dealer, the automatic tip taken out of the prize fund does go to them. |

We're not even allowed to tip dealers in Australia. I've got to say the whole notion of tipping is pretty odd. To begin with, why tip people who are already paid for doing their job? I can see that it may be a nice gesture to low paid workers who have been especially good at their job.
But it seems like tips are very much compulsory which undermines the whole idea of a tip anyway. But I'm coming from a different culture, so excuse me if I don't understand your strange ways. |
