You made dickish comments about me earlier. Lex Talionis demands the same in return. [/ QUOTE ] Fair 'nough. But go ahead and just say "retribution" next time so you don't sound pretentious. |

If I read too much HSNL or strat posts I start to get cabin fever and I need to excercise my mind in another, lighter way without going to another website. [/ QUOTE ] Management wholly agrees with your sentiments. If they had a feature where I could browse all my fav 2+2 forums together in one combined index I wouldn't care one way or the other. Since they don't, I think if it ain't broke... |

[ QUOTE ] I'd frequent OOT just as often, but I would post more in the MBTV thread cuz I know it won't disappear in a matter of hours. [/ QUOTE ] There is a reason it disapears is because people don't want to read it, sorry to say. This is a fact: Threads on popular subjects get responded to. A thread on something not popular, or even garnering interest, will fall to the bottom as it should. This is what was said earlier and it is true: You want to take a subject that doesn't get read in its home forum, and give it its own forum. I think you are mistaking "getting lost in the shuffle of crap" for "the stuff I want to post about is part of that shuffle of crap." [/ QUOTE ] Actually your dead wrong with this. A lot of the posts in politics would never stay on the front page if they weren't in they're own forum. A post on the invasion of IRAQ is not going to be able to compete with- My first time fking my wife trip report, Shark vs. Octopus, Bong or Blunt...which do you prefer? etc etc People want to believe that if your write a really good post about some movie, or tv topic that it will rise to the top...but thats not the case unless a flame war breaks out. Even a lot of the sports topics that get a ton of replies in Sporting Events would disapear if they were stuck back in OOT. I personally don't mind weeding through all the misc threads(which is what makes up 95% of what OOT is) in order to find the LOST,24,Sporanos,Trailer for Silent Hill, Ice Age 2 review, Best actress in their 20's, etc etc. There is plenty of stuff I've posted in OOT and will continue to do so..but some stuff that is heavy Movie/TV related I simply won't bother too because its a waste of time given it will get swallowed in a matter of minutes due to the size of OOT. Having its own forum would simply makes thing easier. It is not going to change the world and its not going to cause OOT to implode on it's self...it'll just make things a bit easier for people who want to focus on that topic only..much the same for the Sports fans, Politics fans, etc etc |

Unless you were a previous user (which you might've been) isn't your sample size a little small to be making generalizations like what you think 95% of OOT is? edit: And I still stand by the idea that if your thread is good, or on a good subject, it will get responses. And if it is too heavy on movie or T.V., it belongs on a site devoted to them. How is a thread too "heavy on movies/t.v." for OOT? |

[ QUOTE ]
Heaven forbid the adolescents obsessed with banging myspace chicks, wanking, farts, the slights of their friends & families, etc., should be left cold and alone in OOT. [/ QUOTE ] Heh. Perfectly stated. I've been a lurker and occassional poster at 2+2 since the start of the web based forum. The trend at OOT has been to get steadily more juvenile. Surprisingly it hasn't yet bottomed out. I would like to read more posts from Zeno recommending obcure books about 19th century explorers or John Cole's posts on documentaries or whatever. Posts like that were always rare but they are nonexistent now. OOT has attracted a very young HS/College age crowd. That demographic probably makes up the majority of 2+2 but it is overwhelming in OOT. This impacts discussion of entertainment considerably. I can see the other side of the argument as well and it is a strong one. This split will shrink the OOT population as there will be little relief from the subjects BluffTHIS! listed above. I think this will have two effects, some of the older posters who everyone enjoys reading will start coming around less (El Diablo, Blarg, Astroglide, Paluka, etc.). Their presence is important, without them OOT is less a place where gamblers hang out in addition to the loss of wit, experience and insight. This will be followed by many more OOT-only posters leaving. They will find somewhere else to discuss the "issues of the day". So, what's important to 2+2? If the number of clicks the site gets and the ad revenue is a major concern then don't split. If they are sick of the atmosphere at OOT (and I don't think it's that bad, just a bit tedious) and want a tighter smaller community and don't care about the people who only come for OOT then do the split. Personally I'd as soon see it split. raisins |

I don't agree that how good a thread is can be determined by its popularity. Often a flamewar will sustain a stupid thread, as noted above. Other threads are started pretty much slowly to be flamewars. It's often merely the overtly sensational that rises to the top, not the cream.
Also, you can't necessarily have so many responses to a good thread that a pretty limited number of responses to a large number of poor threads doesn't still completely throw it toward the bottom of the page and soon out of sight. |

Yeah...I have ADD so I'm contastly ditching email addies/usernames...been around since WPT came about. Finally stuck on this one after getting stoned and watching ANR for the 40th time.
"And if it is too heavy on movie or T.V., it belongs on a site devoted to them. How is a thread too "heavy on movies/t.v." for OOT?" I wouldn't say heavy but its simply that if you post soemthing on OOT and it doesn't get replied to more than once or twice with-in that day..its not going to even be viewed that much more there after. It will get buried...and most poster/lukers I would assume don't wander to deep into the threads..maybe first page or two. Now for a LOST 2/24 episode thread thats no biggie...but if its splintered thread on LOST...then if you do get replies it will be people screaming to put this in the LOST thread. Besides that bad example more obscure stuff won't be read often simply because OOT is too damn big...if the movies/tv/books was in its own forum then when film/tv/books buffs came here to post a hand history or not, they would probably hit MBTV up after reading MSNL or MTT and then they'd hit OOT. I'd almost guarantee every OOTer who also was a movie/tv/book buff/aspiring screenwriter/actor/etc etc would go to MBTV and then OOT afterwards. If though 3/4 of the [censored] is totally retarded...thats the whole reason to come to OOT anyways in my opinion. I for one don't want to miss a Nature Attacks thread, El Diablo's thoughts on Ashley Angel's new reality tv show(edit:thread has been moved to MBTV), or some newb's trip report on snorting coke off of a strippers [censored] for the first time. But like I said...does it really matter? No would it make things a little easier/convienant? Yes |
