Re: NEW MGM IN DETROIT
I went to the new MGM yesterday and while it was pretty nice I really do not see what all the hub bub is about. I mean the floors in the elevators are cool and the walls in certain areas have that 'react to sound' technology which again is cool, but the poker room IMO was not very spectacular. I am biased though and play LHE and they did not have a LHE game going. They have 8 tables of which I think about 5 had NLHE running, they donot have comps, they do not have a BBJ. The place was pretty nice, but small had some nice TVS up on the wall which were not on. The floor said he was trying to get his boss to let him run SNG's and getting comps I told him he better or his action is dead. We went to Greektown right after we left there and they had 11 tables running various games of which some LHE games were included. They started a 125.00 tourney as I was playing and got 85 people to join so first was like 3500.00. So there was another 9 tables full (they had to break up a table to fit the tourney) They also announce they are doing away with the poker pro machines which was met with an applause from those of us in the crowd and I am going to assume they are going to add a couple more tables. That brings the table total up to 20 or 21.
I get why some of you like MMC, but as far as game selection, number of players etc there is no place better than Greektown . The floor sucks, the dealers typically suck except for guys like Joe, but they have comps (those new wings I had again yesterday which are good) usually a pretty solid BBJ (48k yesterday) and tournys throughout the week AND there are things to do around there (hello Old Shillelagh's is right across the street, Comerica park is a 5 minute walk away and the food is pretty solid)
Again I am not knocking you guys for liking MMC I like it to, but for action, selection, comps and the BBJ you have to give it up for Greektown.
