Yesterday Iran held a military parade with its new longer-range missiles.

Not sure what you think is an appropriate response when someone calls for your death or the death of your country, but my first thought isn't "to be a little nice to them". Iran has been doing this kind of stuff ever since their Islamic Revolution under Khomeini, not to mention more recently being behind some deadly attacks in Iraq on Americans.

To everyone who thinks the USA should bend over backwards "to be nice" to Iran, what ever happened to the concept of reciprocity? Iran perpetually gets to issue highly belligerent statements, but the U.S. is expected to "be nice" ???

Maybe the State Department should reciprocally issue a statement saying that the next time the Iranian government makes the public statement "Death To America!" the USA will adopt as its slogan "Death To Iran!" Or maybe that the next time they issue that statement, the USA will consider that an official Declaration of War. OK so that's an exagerration but you get the idea.

And this is coming from someone who thinks the USA should be out of Iraq and that the Iraq War was a gigantic mistake!!! But I'm getting sick of this crap...and I'm starting to think that the Iranian government should be called on the carpet.

Well...I also think ratcheting UP the rhetoric might actually be more likely to avert a coming war with Iran than toning down the rhetoric. I think if things continue on present course it is 90% certain that the USA and/or Israel will be bombing Iran before Bush leaves office. Maybe if the Iranians were to become aware that the fire they are playing with is about to burn them, they'd have second thoughts. But they aren't going to have second thoughts if diplomacy continues in toned-down speech mode. And that means they will be caught by surprise by the bombing-to-come, because (IMO) it really is on the way.

Sometimes playing nice-and-polite is good and sometimes it isn't. IMO this is one of the times it would be more conducive to peace to let the Iranians know how thin the ice they are standing on really is. And that more means plain speech than nice words, because IMO the administration's intentions aren't likely to change on this matter (I don't claim to actually know the administration's intentions but I suspect I have a pretty good guess. France too recently issued a statement about preparing for war with Iran. The political and logistical planets do seem to be coming into alignment).

Just my take, and thanks for reading.
