Default Re: The state of Notre Dame football.

A note about coaches not being at ND long...

Devine- 6 years, 53-16-1, one national Championship
Faust- 5 years, posted a 7-5 record twice (his best)
Davie- 4 years, started 0-3 in 2001 (first time in school history)
O'Leary- 5 days, enough said
Willingham- 3 years, 7-5 & 6-5 in last two seasons

Ara Parseghian was the first non-alumni to coach ND. He won 2 National Championships. With alumni at the helm ND has won 7 national titles (only 4 (+1 in 1993) with non-alumni). There was a trend in the coaches being there fewer and fewer years (with the exception of Holtz) leading up to Willingham and Weis. ND had grown impatient. Now they think they have there guy. They brought back an alumni to coach (the first since Leahy). It's something ND is big on. It's hard to see where ND treated Willingham unfairly and where Weis is being shown special treatment. Since Rockne every ND alumni head coach has been there at least 10 years. It's just the way ND does things.
