Not sure exactly how your priorities stack up, but what about Evanston (assuming you want to rent and not buy)? You could also try for a place in the city, maybe the West Loop for lower prices...

evanston is starting to get really expensive as far as renting and buying condos goes. If you aren't working in the north burbs or going to Northwestern, Evanston probably isn't the best option for someone in their late 20s/early 30s. My friend has a place right now in Lincoln Square and is paying 1K a month for a nice 2 bedroom. I myself have been looking at the lakeview area as it's a bit more for my age bracket then lincoln park(I'm 27)
