Default DTD Poker - Trader Scheme

Am I being unreasonable ........

>>

Thank you for registering your interest in becoming a Poker Trader on DTDPoker.

We have entered into a relationship with Badbeat.com who we are now working with in this area.

Before you are accepted into the scheme it is necessary to verify that you are an active and profitable online poker player.

To do this we need to temporarily access your online account(s). Please forward login details username, password, (ID number if Cryptologic site).

Please change your account passwords and advise the new temporary passwords and after this process is complete you will be contacted so that you can change your password(s) back to their original state.

Please forward this information to me as soon as possible if you wish to proceed.

Your asking me to disclose my poker account passwords to a complete stranger.....!

Im in the risk management and anti-fraud and corruption profession. I spend alot of my time advising clients how to strengthen their security arrangements and I would NEVER advocate disclosing a password in any circumstances. I just cant believe you would even ask.

Hi teecee90

I accept and understand the principal of what you are saying ( I have studies law and my brother is a Barrister specializing in fraud and money laundering).

However I think that to say NEVER is a little narrow minded. As far as I know many poker players that win online satellites or entry to satellites and then are unable to play often ask friends to play the games for them and whilst in principle I would agree that you should not give your password out many do to people that they feel they can categorically trust.

There is also a compromise which is to temporarily change the password and give it out temporarily and change it back afterwards.

We have 100's of people asking for online sponsorship and no one requests it with the added information that they are losing players and we need to examine their accounts to determine their playing habits and success/failure playing online and the only accurate and sure way of doing this is to temporarily access their accounts.

It is a matter of mutual trust and after all you are expecting us to give you our money to play with, and I do not know you nor I have ever met or spoken to you. That trust appears to be reasonable in your mind or do you think I would be crazy to sanction you receiving a bankroll to play with?

Ultimately I respect and totally understand your opinion and if you do not wish to follow the procedure that is fine and may I wish you all the best with your poker,

Hi Paul

I think this response demonstrates breathtaking naivety and reckless disregard for basic security measures. How could anybody "categorically trust" a complete stranger? Temporarily changing my passwords would also have to be coupled with temporarily withdrawing my bankroll and temporarily deleting my credit card details (if that is even possible).

There must be other ways you can validate a players skills, such as only allowing applications from players after x number of hands on your own site.

I will respectfully be declining your offer and have raised my concerns on relevant poker forums.

Hi teecee90,

You appear to have misunderstood what I wrote.

I did not say nor suggest that it was ever possible to categorically trust a complete stranger and this rather silly suggestion appears to have confused the situation.

My point that one may give out temporary use of your account password was intended to demonstrate that to suggest that NO-ONE should EVER give out their password details was not very realistic as many people do give out such information temporarily to certain people. I am not stupid enough to think for one second that you or anyone else that does not an individual should be expected to categorically trust them but if you are attempting to enter a financial arrangement that involves you receiving potentially large amounts of someone's cash I think it is not particularly unreasonable for that person to ask for at least a certain amount of trust from you.

I do not want to get involved in any sort of an argument with you about this.

If you do not wish to go through the process then that is fine.

For the record there are over 100 people who have to date gone through this process and are successful online traders receiving daily bankrolls and to date to my knowledge the multi million pound organisation involved has not plundered their accounts or misused the temporary information made available regarding the players account details.

Paul

There really was no need for you to waste the time of a multi-million pound organisation replying to my email. I have already made my position clear and declined to proceed with my application, for the reasons stated. I do not misunderstand you at all, which is why I have decided not to proceed. I wish you and your hundreds of traders every success. My position remains the same, and my views seem to be shared by others.

Regards.
