He doesn't even sound like your friend (friend of your brother). I'd just appologize to the host of the game and possibly all the players there.

They'll respect you for it and realize that you brought someone whom you didn't know very well. Then they'll forget about it and you can have fun.

I'd go right back if that's what I normally would have done. I certainly wouldn't miss out on the game for my own embarassment. Don't sweat it... when you appologize, everyone there will probably say the same thing.
