However, what will happen is the hardness minerals are replaced with sodium or pottasium, depending on what their using in the softnener. So, the TDS is not lower, actually, it normally goes higher. So, the water is still nothing like what it could be through Reverse osmosis. Softnened water normally has what I describe as a "sweet" taste.
