Property: What Can You Buy For $500,000?

I'm just kind of curious for anyone else that lives in an area with a lot of new construction.

In Northern Virginia it is VERY VERY common for a house to have a brick front, and vinyl siding on the other three sides of the house.

Are there any other areas that do this? I think this is so ugly, and just looks like crap, but for some reason builders around here have been doing it for the last 10-15 years or so.
