I believe that sometimes upires have already made the call in their head before the play takes place. He had to know he was wrong when Willy came out there. The real question is if he did know he was wrong why is it so wrong for him to just say, "I screwed up, you get the base." Are umpires really that egotistical? or is it the union?(do umpires still have a union?)
