[ QUOTE ]
ne14dirt: I agree with you about the general stereotype that precedes Utah, but I don't think you're giving the posters on this forum enough credit in realizing that it's just that, a stereotype. Even more than the stereotype, I think it's just the brand of basketball & personnel they've had. A decade of Stockton to Malone being the bread & butter of your team makes it boring. The casual fan isn't too interested in the intricacies of a well executed half court set. Also, contrast the Jazz (or whomever in the 90's) with Jordan, who has been fried into subconscious mind. He's participating dunk contests & his #2 guy is also an athletic wing. MJ's charming, w/ mind boggling athleticism & the best scorer in the league. They also had Rodman for awhile to liven things up. Average fans can follow this. The Jazz never had that commercial appeal. Stockton basically never gave interviews. No one really knows his personality. Malone is a post players, and they're just not as appealing as guards to the casual fan. It's all about the athletic wing players, and the Jazz haven't had a great one. Lastly, why do you consider having 3+ wives to not be a positive thing? It’s too bad that Stockton and Malone weren’t media darlings like Jordan and some of his team mates but you must admit they were quietly and methodically winning on a consistent basis for many many years. That said the Stockton and Malone days have been over for some years now, we need to move on from them and look at the current team. I would also add that it’s not that I don’t give this forum enough credit for seeing past the stereotypes it’s that I really don’t give most of the country that credit. I think the Jazz get an unfair wrap more often than not. |
