Picture the exact same flop, one guy has two high hearts, one has J9. Tell me you are not making bank. its rare you will get screwed over like that. Its much less rare someone would flop trips and you a boat.

I realize that, but putting pressure on opponents is so critical to winning. By just limping here you're praying for the perfect flop and c/f when you miss (89% of the time). By raising you can limit the field to 1-2 opponents and take it down with a continuation bet 50% of the time.

HYPOTHETICAL

Limping in and catching a flop probably takes it down with a bet after hitting a set half the time (6.5% you win $3), you win a big pot maybe 1/3 time (4% you win $80), and you get sucked out on by a draw the rest of the times (2.5% you lose $80), the other 89% of the time you fold and lose $0.50.

But if you raise, and you get one caller, you take it down with a continuation bet 55% of the time for a pot of $7 (two limpers, plus your $3 raise and a call = profit of $4). The other 35% of the time you c-bet and lose and lose $7 (your raise + c-bet) But some of the time you actually hit a set and win a big pot, lets say $80 maybe 7.5% of the time, and you get outdrawn 2.5% of the time to lose $80.

I did the equity on notebook paper here and it comes up (with these numbers if my math is correct) to be about 3x more profitable to raise and isolate.

Yes some of the time you'll get more than one caller, or maybe UTG will limp-shove but those are the two most common situations (as you can see, people limping 95s aren't gonna call a raise usually)
