[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What is it about American firearm ownership that Europeans (and others) just can't stand? [/ QUOTE ] The part where +10,000 die each year. It's not the ownership of guns that is upsetting people so much, it's the unwillingness of many Americans to even acknowledge the downside that comes with it. Being so unwilling to even think about gun control leads to blind spots, and sometimes to some pretty wacky conclusions (ie "Let's arm professors!"). If you honestly weigh the pros and cons and decide it's worth it for your country to allow citizens to carry guns, then that's fine. It's the unwillingness to even look at the possibility of regulations by some that is baffling to others of a different culture. There are pros and cons to carrying guns. They have to be explored honestly. [/ QUOTE ] Speaking of "honest exploration", why does it seem that nearly all of the pro-gun-control folks just seem to FLAT-OUT IGNORE the large body of statistical evidence that runs contrary to their personal conclusions? Studies done by the CDC, the UN, and many other independent organizations...??? [/ QUOTE ] Please share this large body with us. It has been my impression that the majority of reliable sources point to less violence in areas with less guns. I'd gladly read something that points to the contrary. |
