Default Re: Official Barry Bonds Countdown Thread

Wow! Number 739 yesterday was a moonshot, 457 feets worth to dead central.

I've been a lifelong S.F Giants fan, grew up in the Bay area, and my family had season tickets into the 90's.

I've seen live, or on TV, or heard on the radio probably 500 of Bonds home runs.

Bonds was voted best player of the 90's, before the whole steroid thing. He was one of the top 5 players of all time before his home barrage during the 21st century.

He has what, nearly 10 gold gloves? People forget he was once one of the best defensive outfielders ever.

He could cut off a would be double, pivot & throw to second better than any left fielder ever.
Not to mention the 500/500 thing, or 700/500 thing.

There's only a few others at 300/300 to put that in perspective.

It's horrible he's the poster child for steroids and gets most of the flak.
Palmeiro got caught red handed, tested positive and lied about it. He's gone now.
Sosa was super juiced, you don't hear much talk about that. His interpreter at those hearings was a joke.
McGwire is gone now, so obv. he gets no flak anymore so Bonds is left to take it all.

Bonds was a home run hitter before he bulked up, he was a 40/40 guy in 1996, he hit 46 homers in his MVP year of 1993.

Yes, "skinny" Bonds hit all those homers in the pre bulk up years.

If not for the nearly 800 walks he had from 2001-2004, and missing essentially the entire year in 2005, he would have well over 800 home runs at this juncture.

Talk of Bonds not being in the Hall, is a complete joke especially since they let anyone in these days. Bonds should have his own Hall of Fame.

If he's an [censored] off the field, oh well, I admire his Godly baseball skills, and that alone. How he interacts with random people away from the b-ball field makes little difference.
He's paid to play baseball to the best of his ability, not be a nice guy to the media or random people on the streets.

He's indicated he wants to reach 3000 hits, he's about 150 away right now. I hope he comes back next season & reaches 3000 hits, and aims for 800 homers next season.

If he stays healthy I wouldn't put it past him to reach those numbers.

So look out all you Bonds haters...
