[ QUOTE ]
Australian gun laws has no effect on murder rate [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Regardless, the total number of gun deaths by both homicide and suicide has dropped in Australia since the tougher laws went into effect. At the very least this argues against those who say guns stop more killings in self-defense than they cause in the hands of criminals. If this was true then the death rates should have gone up once guns became harder to get for law-abiding citizens. [/ QUOTE ] you realize the studies are comparing apples and oranges. The pro-self defense point of view looks at all murders, the anti-gun crowd looks at "gun deaths". Obviously you can have a case where "gun deaths" go way down but murders go way up. No one is arguing that if all guns disappeared "gun deaths" would go way down. I hope you see the difference. |
