This is an extremely weak argument. I don't think anyone is arguing that regulations like gun control and airport security are about surviving as a species.

So the safety checks, etc are not to increase our safety....ahem which would translate into improved chances of survival?

Is your arguement that the safety factor remains unchanged but your personal subjective feelings are better off and that is why you support all the rules and regulations? Gee thanks for being so honest about it. I didn't think very many people who managed their feelings like this were in touch with what they were actually doing.
