This is not up for discussion. Hendrix may be the better performer. But at a talent standpoint. Page is the best guitar player ever. Just watch the Led Zep DVD { the one with the desert on the cover}

I just might have to do that. Although I'll still cringe if he does the violin stick routine.

Jimmy Page had a period of greatness, like a lot of artists. Led Zeppelin recorded some of my favorite all-time albums, but what did he do after that. Not exactly greatest of all-time material. He 'was' awesome but now he's kind of a has been in a way. I'd rank someone like Keith Richards higher than Page.

LOL Funniest thing ive read all day.

Could you point me in a direction as to some post-Zep stuff
that solidifies your claim he's the greatest of all-time. Maybe there's some stuff I've missed. The way I see it, after Zeppelin he did pretty much nothing of note. Like I said, not exactly good for the resume as far as the greatest of all-time. But still a kick ass player in his day.

Let me kick some knowledge to you man. It doesn't got [censored] to do with what you've done or where you've been. It's about how you play. If you played the guitar you would know that. You can learn to play Hendrix in half the time to learn Page. It's the skill Page possesses that makes him the BEST GUITARIST EVER.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've played guitar for nearly 20 yrs. I think Page lost it after Zeppelin and he's yet to find it. I don't see him displaying this skill anywhere anymore. And what's more I think he knows it and that's why.

[/ QUOTE ]

What's that got to do with who plays the guitar better. I don't see Hendrix playing anymore either, for obvious reasons. You've seen and heard Page. Does he have a contract with you that states he must renew his badass guitar skills every so often to remain good. Do me a favor. Smoke a doobie, listen to a Hendrix guitar solo, than a Page solo. Page clearly has {Had to you} better skills. I am not taking anything away from Jimi Hendrix, he is an insane guitar player. But just a little less qualified than Page for the top spot.

[/ QUOTE ]

If I was without a doubt the best guitar player of all-time you can be damn sure I'd be out there slinging my axe every night letting people know what's what, not sitting on the sidelines.

This is really unfair. Hardly any of our "great" guitarists have managed to sustain relevance for a period of greater than ten years.

The Stones were on the downhill from Exile on Main Street going forward. Clapton chose the path of pop-rock/blues mediocrity thirty years ago. Hendrix may likely have been past his peak when he died. Van Halen can't keep a band together.

Starting with the Yardbirds, Page was a premiere rock writer and guitarist for more than a decade. His contribution to rock music is as great as any guitarist who came before him or followed him. The fact that he is no longer actively writing music and performing today should have no bearing on how you judge him.

It's especially unfair in an argument about Page vs Hendrix, since Page fans have no recourse against it.
