People are pround of being German, Irish, Scottish, etc.
The idea of being proud of being white, i can only assume, comes from the notion of a 'proud black man'. And my only explanation is that history has treated african's with one broad brush (not caring if they are Congolese, S. African, et al.) while making the distinction between the various European descendants. It must be hard for you, i know.
