I can certainly relate, though being married has mitigated things to a large degree. However, if my wife is out of town on work or whatever, I am often up until 3am even when working four hours later. Like you, I will find the most banal activities to keep me up -- from reading sub-standard political columns / blogs to playing more poker, etc.
