been out of the game... anyone wanna fill me in?

So, I was out of the country traveling on my winnings for about six months. Just backpacking and cycling through Europe, time of my life, so and and so forth. Anyway, I'm back now and looking to get back in the game (As soon as I have a few dollars, that as). However, there's this whole internet gambling bill business that I don't really know anything about. So, i'm wondering if anyone can fill me in here as to how this affects me and what all I can do. I imagine it hasn't stopped people from playing, so what are you guys doing about it? Can anyone sum it all up for me, or post a link to something that does? Has it affected which sites are the softest at all? Have any closed down since the change? Anything else I haven't thought of that would be pertinent?
