[ QUOTE ] tim, what's our response to 38. ... Kf8 39. Bc5+? [/ QUOTE ] You just slide the king to e8 and walk up the white squares. It semi-steals a tempo from us but we'd get it back when we move the knight and hit the bishop. Bottom line the fear of the check is not a reason to play f6, just march the king along to e8 and up.... [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I wasn't worried about Bc5+. 38...Kf8 39.Bc5+ Ke8 40.Kf3 Nb3 and now if 41.Bb6 Kd7 42.Ke4 Kc6 43.Be3 Nc5+ 44.Kd4 Ne6+ 45.Kc4 b5+ 46.Kb4 Nc7 47.Bd4 Nd5+ 48.Kb3 g6 49.g5 Kd6 we have made some progress. This won't all happen because he will probably play something other than 41.Bb6, but I just posted this line as an example of what we need to be aiming for: getting the king, knight and pawn all working together, rather than just trying to advance that pawn alone, when it is easily stopped. |
