junior and senior year, everyone in the school's popular crowd dated each other at some point (tiny school, so the popular crowd was ~20-30 people). it was in NYC so sex was had by all concerned. then one of the people in the center of the whole thing supposedly came down with herpes which meant pretty much everyone was exposed to it.

she was in an open relationship with a guy from the HS when she was on the show (although I don't remember him at all) so I'm not really doubting any of that.
