From a pure long term view, I'm not sure the Bishop at g6. I would be afraid that at the right (or wrong) time f4 would be played and without a pawn at e6 to stop its advancement.. oh well.. it could look silly.
Of course that's the abstract view, so I think Be4 is following the plan of why "this move" was played over Bc5.

Of course Qc8 has some merit, however it does not support the d pawn.
