Default Re: The Well: El Diablo

BPS:

"Having made the switch from mid-high stakes limit to high stakes no-limit successfully, can you describe what the most important changes in thought process and decision making you had to make were?"

Well, I think limit is a lot easier. Whenever I play limit now, it seems trivially easy. I think the only thing most NL players need to do is remember that each of those little bets does count, so think through the hand and save a bet here and there when you can. Also, call down more.

"Also, while I feel like you are not amongst the top ballers in the 2+2 community, you seem to be a baller nontheless. Can you describe a typical baller day for you?"

Hmmm, that's sort of insulting, BPS, but also a bit of a challenge. So, I'll rewind back to a pretty good day a while back. 10p - Went out Friday night to swank bar. 11p - Met up w/ hot chick (that I already knew). 1a - Had sex. 11a - Got up in morning. She left. Noon - Went across the street to Italian cafe and had breakfast. Called up friend. 1:30p - Got in convertible, picked him up, drove to airport. 3p - Got on plane to vegas. 5p - Went to Hard Rock and played blackjack for a few hours. 8p - Went to Nobu for dinner. 10p - Played blackjack for a few hours. 1a - Went to club. 3a - went to strip club. 7a - back to Hard Rock for a couple more hours of black jack. 10a - head to airport and go back home.

"1. Online poker--will it ever be made explicitly illegal in USA?"

Probably.

"2. HU deepstack 10k freezeout winner: AZK vs fsuplayer"

Whoa. Good one...... fsu.

"3. State of The Lounge? and the state of the Mod forum?"

Dead. No idea.

"4. Will you ever play a WSOP event?"

Probably.

"5. Pick your favorite in each of these groups:"

(a) Coke, Gatorade, Starbucks bottled coffee.
(b) KISS, Guns and Roses, Van Halen
(c) Canada, England, Portugal, Israel.
(d) Razz, 7 Stud Hi/Lo, limit Omaha hi/lo.
(e) MN Twins, MN Vikings, MN Timberwolves, MN Wild.

Corm:

"1.) How do you deal with stretches where you are just playing really really poorly or playing your C game? Your reads are off, you are splashing around in too many pots without the goods, whatever. I mean both on and off the table, like running through whole session histories or going for a run or something."

I quit as soon as I start playing bad. And I always run through key hands after sessions I'm not happy with.

"2.) On a related note, how do you deal with a table that has just seen you pull some donktastic move and come out shiny clean? Tighten up? Less aggro with draws? More willing to felt TPTK?"

Tighten up a little, no, no. People rarely adjust all that much very quickly. If I've been caught a few times, I'll then slow down a little and be more willing to rumble light.

"3.) What other games do you play competively (chess, backgammon, etc.)?"

None.

"4.) Finally, favorite suit?"

A black Martin Greenfield suit I've had for a while.

I'd bet the turn or if I check-called I'd probably check the river and make a decision. I don't know anything about how play at that level is, so I can't really add much more of value.

Fly:

"At what limits (if any) do you believe (innate) intelligence begins to play the dominant role? Do you think their is an intelligence threshold such that someone who falls below it would never ben a winning player try as they might?"

Around 25/50 or so I think it becomes pretty important. Yes.

IU:

"Are you saying that you use this technique as an heuristic, or is it the actual method you use for hand reading? Don't you base your decisions on your opponents' range of hands?"

When I am playing an opponent, I try to figure out the exact two cards he has. I of course take into account a certain range around that in terms of making my decisions.

k:

"What do you think of my game and did you spot any leaks I might have?"

You are one of the tougher players in that game. I think you are a little overaggro and pay off a little too much.

mmbt:

"Rumor had it you were coming to Atlanta at some point. Does the lure of Anacardo and myself not do it for you?"

No.

"If you had to estimate IndieMattySuspects body fat percentage, over or under 25?"

Over, but it doesn't stop him from being king pimp and banging every chick in sight. Kid has skills.

Specialist:

"1) Who was it that influenced you that you became the man that you are today? What was the most important thing he taught you?"

Nobody really. My parents are great and I think have really strong morals/values/integrity and I picked that up from them, but I'm not really much of a mentors/influences type guy.

"2) I am a jack of all trades and master of none. I've seen Europe. When do I know that I am on the path I am supposed to be on? How do I know this is the path?"

I try not to worry about stuff like that and try to just do what I think will make me happy and keep me interested and hope the rest sort of falls into place. So far, so good.

toy:

"When you talk about handreading, do you use the way a particular player played another hand to infer anything? Like if someone just calls with a strong hand on the river rather than raise it, do you ever use that to infer other things? If so, could you maybe tell us some clues to watch for?"

Of course. I am constantly looking at hand histories in realtime to see what the unshown hands were in hands. Knowing what sort of strong hands people get passive w/ is a huge key.

Specialist:

"Is it possible to become master of all, jack of no trades? What will it take to accomplish this?"

I think you'd need to be The Highlander.
