For your next gig, brush up on how to win at office politics. A few thoughts:
1. Always get people on your side as individuals before you try to get a decision made in a meeting. People are more sympathetic to your plight one one one than they are if you're the one upset guy trying to convince three or four people they're wrong. If you talk about it to each person beforehand, you know their hands and can play your hand rather than going to showdown blind. 2. Make each individual want to help you. Get on their good side. If nobody likes TTWC, she knows it. Just being nicer to her than everybody else is will get her on your side. If nobody really likes TAP, do the same. Give her a reason to take your side. Appeal to TNG's sense of fairness, or just become tighter with him because you both hate the other two. As for the principal, don't become a big headache for him. Explain your past to him, explain how you feel, but do it in a non-confrontational way. As soon as each individual is on your side, you get what you want in meetings. 3. Figure out how to make it easy for each person to help you. Figure out how to give them something in return. Fair or not, you are starting with nothing and have to figure out what to trade to get what you want. 4. Always take the high road. Don't lie to or double-cross anyone, and don't make enemies. |
