I think Allen's play was fine. Obviously he could have gotten more out of it, but that's the "results" clouding the analysis.
Face it, from about 100 players on wards Cunningham survived near the bottom of the chip counts. Understanding that he was under no pressure from the blinds to go crazy yet he just played "poker" and built himself up nicely. he is now the only other serious force besides Gold (at this point). He figures he would much rather play 3-5 medium sized pots with GOld than 1 super huge large one. Obviously he's willing to play a super huge large one with the nuts, but he didn't have the nuts there and that was him sticking to his "build my stack, wait for good spots" strategy. |
