A direct answer that I received from the publisher today:

The book will be released in August, at the end of the month, in the US. Stock will then be shipped to Europe where it will arrive towards the end of September. It will be released before the end of September in Europe, as scheduled

All in all, my August 15 suggestion may have been slightly optimistic. Having said that, it seems that both in the US and in Europe the book will be out clearly before the official October 1 release date.
