New Comp. - AMD Athlon 64 x2 or Intel Pentium D Dual Core 2?

Both are going to perform much faster than you need, so I would go with value.

Having been an AMD supporter for many years with my desktops, right now I must admit the Duos largely outperform anything AMD has to offer in performance.

Basically you cant go wrong either way.
