People are totally not understanding this. This is not shortsighted at all. The total prize pool for all the freerolls is going to be well into the seven figures. That's going to lead to some nice looking press releases that will attract a lot of new players.
It's not a horrible idea. Skimming some money from the high volume players for advertising and to redistribute somewhat randomly amongst the player base is good for them.
Their execution leaves a lot to be desired though. They're going a little overboard with the extra psuedorake. Making the freeroll purses 20% bigger isn't really going to have much of an effect except to piss off high volume players.
