Letter to my parents (LONG)

I don't think the replies were really all that harsh. There was a lot of constructive criticism, but isn't that why you'd post such a letter on a message board before delivering it your parents anyway?

Maybe there were a couple cheap shots in there, I don't know. But telling somebody that a letter he is going to deliver to his parents is going to do more harm than good is not being mean, it's just being honest.
