Re: Favorite Sports Announcer
Al Michaels is insanely good. I mean, I've heard him call just about every sport and he does them all perfectly. I was too young (7) to watch/appreciate the 1980 Olympics upset, but it appears it's his calling card. Plus carrying that dead weight Dan Deirdorf through all those MNF seasons must be worth something...
Pat Summerall. When I was in my backyard simulating huge comebacks, it was his voice that was narrating. The guy's droll voice takes me back to NFC East matchups circa 1988. Cowboys-Redskins. Giants-Eagles. I was even excited when ESPN dusted him off for a few games a couple of years ago.
Verne Lundquist. Here's an extremely underrated announcer with some serious range. He'll call the entire NCAA tourney in March and then a week later be somberly sitting on the 16th at the Masters. Plus he does a great job on the NFL. That's a pretty hard trifecta to pull off, folks.
Also, yeah to the Vin Scully votes. We didn't have an MLB franchise here (Phoenix) growing up, so we listened to Dodger games. That man is brilliant, and is also supposed to be a helluva guy.
