Default Re: MTT Team Challenge (May 2006) DRAFT ELIGIBILITY THREAD

[ QUOTE ]
I don't really think it's a good idea to print off stats from the db (not that nat would allow it). First and foremost it would be a nice list of who has run hot for their last 500 or so tournaments, and really wouldn't provide much useful information, and is highly results oriented. There are certain folks with fantastic records in their db over an inaduquate sample size who I would never pick over certain players who are in the red over that sample size. I suppose when I win the sunday 1m next week and my results go from +7000 over the last 400 tournaments or whatever, to +157,000, I'm all of a sudden a better player.

I think that is the whole point of a draft--different captains will work in different ways and whoever has the best system will have the best chance of winning.

Your argument is parallel to the one made by those who argue that the NFL's Wunderlich (sp?) Test shouldn't be used, because it doesn't indicate who will be a good football player. Well, sure it doesn't, but it attempts to measure intelligence, which is one of the many, many factors that goes into making a good football player, just like a 40-yard dash or a bench press measures other factors involved.

There are going to be a lot of people in this contest, apparently. There are going to be a whole lot in the draft pool. There's no way any of the captains is going to be able to go back through the posts of every one of these guys to try to figure out who to pick. If your contention is correct that that's a better way to pick a team, then that will bear out in the competition (well, not really, due to MTT variance and all it'll still pretty much be a crapshoot, but you know what I mean).

The point is all of the captains should function like sports general managers and work based on their own criteria and may the best criteria win.
