Ok this is my first and last contribution to this thread.

To state the obvious, your situation has been dragging on.

You seem to be a nice guy.

I am far from sure that this situation is contributing to your happiness.

Just take some steps one way or another.

Don't talk about drinking with her and "making [slow] progress".

Start drinking with her and then wait for first available opportunity to take action that will clarify the situation.

Unless you enjoy being in this state of uncertainty and get off on not having done it and not knowing where you stand. (Which offers great opportunities for self-absorption and feeling sorry for yourself and displaying your tragic plight on poker forums).

If you want out of this situation then take action.

If you don't then carry on as normal you are having a great time.

Her even considering hooking up with other guys when you're spending three years on her and with her constantly is really depressing stuff. I can't see how your taking it with aplomb is healthier than saying "Eff that, I'm not being her emotional wh*ore and warming her up for some other dude's pay-off."

I'm usually pretty quick to yell "TROLL!", but I think Doc is being honest with us. His story is way too elaborate, has gone on way too long, and reminds me (a little) of myself at his age.
