[ QUOTE ]
First part cannot be correct. Very few penalties, only 3 turnovers. No boneheadedly blown assignments. This was a tightly played game. [/ QUOTE ] Very few penalties because the refs sucked. There were plenty of blatant instances of holding, there was a pretty egregious offensive PI, etc. Only 3 turnovers because 1 interception was ruled not an interception, 2 more were dropped, and Texas recovered, what, 3 of their own fumbles? |

yes.
4 and five for everything in the world, and texas converts. unbelievable game. Not did it only live up to the impossible hype, it surpassed it. the fumbles hurt a bit, but i can overlook it. Texas had so much heart. wow. |

you have clearly forgotten that game if you think this:
[ QUOTE ] The result of that literally hinged on one questionable call [/ QUOTE ] i encourage you to watch it. it was pretty sloppy tho. 7 total turnovers i believe. |

[ QUOTE ] way too sloppily played to be the best ever, but a great game nonetheless. [/ QUOTE ] I disagree outside of the Bush Lateral and the muffed punt the game was pretty well played. [/ QUOTE ] You forgot the all of the fumbles that were recovered by the rightful team, and you forgot all of the bonehead personal foul penalties, and you forgot all of the missed field goals by the UT kicker, and you forgot the bonehead coaching move at the end (going for it on 4th and 1 was just a terrible call considering that UT had already proved that they could stop USC in short yardage situations.) |

Only if you put a strong weighting on the game being the national championship game. There have been many, many, many more exciting individual games that I've witnessed in my short 25 years.
Also, IMO, the helplessness of both defenses in the 2nd half detracted from the game. Two offenses shredding the defenses in a Who's Gonna Get It Last type game isn't exactly all time great stuff to me. In all seriousness, the most dramatic thing for me on the last Texas drive was whether or not they would leave enough time on the clock after scoring to give USC a shot at the field goal. 5 more seconds and they would have done it. |

unbelievable game. Not did it only live up to the impossible hype, it surpassed it. [/ QUOTE ] The only way the game could have surpassed the hype would have been if USC drove for a fg and then the game went into 16 overtimes. |

[ QUOTE ] I can't think of a better game than this ever, especially considering it was in the national title game. [/ QUOTE ] Perhaps there was one prior to me 1980 but if there is please enlighten me. Also do NOT mention Ohio State vs Miami, while that was a great game it isnt even close to this. Also, the fact Ohio State didnt really win the game (they won on a Phantom Pass Interference Call) ruins that game. This was easily the a Top 3 best game ever and IMO # 1. [/ QUOTE ] A phantom call, unlike Vince's pitch from the knees? Granted they probably would have scored anyway, OSU was on the bad end of one call in regulation as well. Stupid officials. Too many "what-ifs" in both situations. |
