Wow - poker skills SERIOUSLY deteriorate quickly - not played poker for 10 days - just played 350 hands - dropped 3 (more) BI and generally played really bad poker - grrrr - it really frustrates me when I know I have played badly - I really need to improve my game!

Im actually feeling the opposite - havent played in about a week, but Ive been thinking so much about my game, what I was doing wrong, and how to fix it. I cant WAIT to get back into it, I feel like Im going to totally destroy the games when I get back.

One thing I experiemented with before I took a break was playing without a HUD - OMFG seriosuly the BIGGEST help ever. I never knew how much having stats on someone can influence your desicions - often in the wrong direction.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah - I know what you mean about taking time off and thinking about the game - I was feeling the same, but then got to the tables and for some reason decided to play like a total donk, I don't think I was in the right frame of mind - well - its only 350 hands - will see how it develops....

Also - when you say 'OMFG seriosuly the BIGGEST help ever' are you meaning the HUD is the BIGGEST help ever, or that playing a session without a HUD is the BIGGEST help ever?

[/ QUOTE ]

I mean turning the hud OFF was the best thing ever.

By far the best thing for me of playing without a HUD is that I make far, far fewer mistakes. This is primarily because I am concentrating on very pure value lines. This is a pretty hard strategy to screw up - just bet your big hands hard. Everything else is smallball without damn good reason for it not to be. It is amazing how simple this game should be at our levels, and not having a HUD kinda helps with this straight-forward approach.

Also, without a HUD, your inclination is to indulge in FPS lessens. The number of times you stack off with pitiless crap like ATo or QJo in stupid, marginal spots that don't matter is cut way, way down without a HUD, because you concentrate on a basic value logic: these are small pot hands not stacking-off hands most of the time. HUD can fool you into thinking they're not. I'd say eliminating these mistakes should add, I dunno, 33% to a marginal players' wr? I'd be surprised if it's not that much.

Nowadays, I tend to use my HUD simply to differentiate 3 broad categories - drooler/reg/other. After that, meh...bomb your sets and when your sc's hit, 3b big pairs, blah, blah - bingo.

Uhh... I made the worse play of my career ever and made a bad call also.

Those are the pots that make the difference between a huge winner and a average winner .

I hate myself.
