I keep my PC calculator opened when I am playing and type in the number of outs I have X 4 on the turn, X2 on the river.. if you can't add quickly in your head... having the calculator opened helps. [/ QUOTE ] You could also print out a chart to be more accurate with that. When I first started playing, I consulted the Wikipedia article with the starting hand rankings and used this chart: http://home.houston.rr.com/texasholdempoker/odds.htm to help me make my decisions. I haven't looked at those pages in months, but they were a good starting point. Once you start playing more, you'll not need to rely on them anymore. |

Thanks for the advice guys. The more hands I play the more I seem to memorize certian situations. I think knowing what to do before it happens (or at least having a rough idea) is key in most online situations, where time is very limited (especially multi tabling).

[/ QUOTE ] I do pretty much the same thing. I actually have flash cards with me at the computer, because I'm trying to memorize a lot of situations. Michigan has local charity fundraiser NLHE tournaments that you can enter for $50. I tried a couple when I was starting out, and I would like to do more in the future. I won't have all the hardware and software with me at live games, so I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. I'm actually teaching myself to do more math in my head. As well as flash cards with outs on one side and breakeven pot odds on the other, I'm also learning the multiplication tables higher than the 12 X 12 that we had to learn in school. The more math that I can do in my head automatically, the easier it will be to figure pot odds without having to think too long or hard. If you're going to be strictly an online player, then the calculator thing will work just fine, as long as you're not multitabling. I doubt that people are punching a calculator when they are 12-tabling. |

LOL good point Poker Clif about multi-tabling.. truth is I play full ring Omaha Hi and there ususally isn't more than two games going. Typically I play just one game but as many as 2, so using the calculator is an option for me. Frankly Omaha is too difficult a game to play a whole lot of tables at once.
Great Chart BTW... wish there was one for Omaha HI - but I can see how you could use the theory or the concepts behind the chart even for omaha. However, there are many more combinations to consider in Omaha. |
