Adam Dunn (28) - $13MM club option for '08

[/ QUOTE ]

def. could see him as 1b for the Red Sox if Cincii lets him go. Theo doesn't care that he strikes out a lot, and he is still young. I think Youk at 3b and Dunn at 1b isn't so crazy, and projects better than Lowell/Youk I think.

isn't texeira a FA next season too?

anyway, there are precisely two guys on that list that are more interesting than Lowell, and the Reds will probably exercise that option for 08 rather than let Dunn walk and get nothing for him.

[/ QUOTE ]

he has a team option for '08, which i imagine the braves have already picked up (list was updated august 23rd)

edit: and yea, there is virtually no chance the reds let dunn walk, but i'd be suprised if his name doesnt come up a lot in winter meetings trade talk ish

i would enjoy seeing dunn with the sox, although dunn as a power bat that replaces manny is a little suspect because it leaves us super LH-heavy in the middle of the order. then your biggest RH power bat is who - tek? and he's a switch hitter. dunn is also a butcher in the field from what i understand.

which reminds me, in other news, i really hope the sox do something on the catching front this offseason. they've been quiet about it which is good, because they are trying to make a deep run, but we need to have somebody else ready when tek breaks down.

Lol. It's over 90 here today and you guys have a torrid hot stove discussion going here.

Not to change the subject but how high do you think the SF pick the Patriots got will be and who should they take?

also calling ellsbury "a guy who put up a .738 ops in AAA this year" is kind of intellectually dishonest because theres no reason to ignore a quarter of his season which is equivalent to like a 1150 AAA ops. also guys like ellsbury that just put the ball in play every plate appearance dont lose as much when they jump up a level

[/ QUOTE ]

ok, well we're talking about a guy with 2 hr's and a .424 slg % (including his .600+ in AA) in the minors this year having a 30 at bat hot streak and replacing 2 proven veterans or a likely gold glove cf'er. i dont think i'm being "intellectually dishonest".

ellsbury will not lose most of his centerfield value, you are correct. problem is, his value is his speed and outfield defense, which would be lost as a corner outfielder in boston. his .335 minor league BABIP is much closer to what i'd expect in a full season compared to his current .424 BABIP (and, i'd expect his 2% k rate to climb closer to its normal level, while we're at it)

ellsbury is not an elite hitting prospect. theres nothing wrong with that, but when people are talking about putting him in a corner outfield spot, they do it with the expectation that he'd outperform jd drew's line this year, which would probably be his ceiling next year.

[/ QUOTE ]
ellsbury is a v v good hitting prospect

i posted before that i only expect like .280/.340/.380 or so next year from him. its not liek i have unrealistic expectations for his bat. but that line + absurd defense + good baserunning makes him a pretty valuable player in a corner of spot

if ellsbury didnt run like god but projected to hit .290/.360/.460 he wouldnt be any more valuable but nobody woudl have a problem with having him start the year in a corner of spot.

i dislike your acronyms, but I'm highly jealous of your free tickets story. When i went to Camden last month it was 80+% Sox Fans. I wonder if that numbers decreased now that the summer season's over.

comeon man, if I call them stuff like that it basically makes me friends with them amirite?
