[ QUOTE ]
In Episode 5, no one would have even attempted to talk back to Vader. In Episode 4, the dude Vader choked was completely insulting Vader. If Vader was really the Emperor's right hand man (as shown in Episodes 3, 5, and 6), he would never have done that. Also, Tarkin (the commander of the Death Star) basically gave him an order when he told Vader to stop force choking the dude. Nobody would have talked to Vader like that in episodes 5 and 6. And Leia referred to Tarkin as "holding Vader's leash", another reference to Tarkin being above Vader. [/ QUOTE ] All this can be explained by just accepting the Lucas is a lazy and poor writer. Best stated by Maddox here http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse....cgi?u=episode3 "Near the end, Lucas takes a [censored] on the script and makes his crew translate it into an ending that putters across the finish line. The product is a scene where Anakin tries to literally choke Padme using the force: Yes, that's right. The entire reason Anakin switched to the dark side becomes unraveled when he tries to kill Padme, who was the reason he switched to the dark side to begin with." |

he does? what are you talking about? did you watch these movies? [/ QUOTE ] Hey No-show, I'm not some moran in your LOST thread who asks dumb questions...lay off the trolling Gus: Exactly! No way pre-Darth Anakin, let alone Vader would take that abuse. Always bugged me. -ZEN |

i'm not trolling.. he didn't take that abuse, he choked the [censored] out of the guy! the wiki/wookie says that they (vader and tarkin) had a mutual respect for each other.

Also, afaik in ep. 4 it wasn't like Vader was 2nd in command for the whole empire. I remember the scene as moff guy as head honcho in the room, vader number 2 (although obviously special connection to the emperor).

of course there's an "R2D2 language", he communicates all the time with C3PO [/ QUOTE ] I think the only people who can understand R2 are C3PO and Luke when he's in the x-wing and can read the display in the cockpit. He can't understand him otherwise. I think there's a line, after they crash in the swamp, where Luke says something like "If you're saying that coming here was a bad idea, I'm starting to agree with you." |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, but if you'd heard all about how Palpatine's boy strangled some chick because he was so concerned about her strangling, I think you'd leave him alone. On the other hand, the empire probably doesn't hire the cream of the crop... |

[/ QUOTE ] god im a nit. think of it as duel hierarchies- kind of like a SS and wehrmacht. vader is 2nd in the quasi-religous force driven sith heirarchy, but not necessarily the same for the regular military. In fact, he doesn't really have military rank. |
