i'm not trolling.. he didn't take that abuse, he choked the [censored] out of the guy! the wiki/wookie says that they (vader and tarkin) had a mutual respect for each other.

Also, afaik in ep. 4 it wasn't like Vader was 2nd in command for the whole empire. I remember the scene as moff guy as head honcho in the room, vader number 2 (although obviously special connection to the emperor).

I think the only people who can understand R2 are C3PO and Luke when he's in the x-wing and can read the display in the cockpit. He can't understand him otherwise. I think there's a line, after they crash in the swamp, where Luke says something like "If you're saying that coming here was a bad idea, I'm starting to agree with you."

Yeah, but if you'd heard all about how Palpatine's boy strangled some chick because he was so concerned about her strangling, I think you'd leave him alone.

On the other hand, the empire probably doesn't hire the cream of the crop...

That's my point. Vader was second in command in episodes 3, 5, and 6. Why wasn't he second in command in 4?

god im a nit.

think of it as duel hierarchies- kind of like a SS and wehrmacht. vader is 2nd in the quasi-religous force driven sith heirarchy, but not necessarily the same for the regular military. In fact, he doesn't really have military rank.
