If you call being buggered until your blood supply runs out happiness.

I didn't read a lot of the thread, but I'd say that the best chance is from disease either natural or man made. After this I would say that a large object from space hitting us is the second most likely.
Nukes don't stand a chance, they're a big dick waving weapon but nobody would actually use them. |

If you mean, "When will humanity become extinct," then I think it will be nukes or some other man-made disaster related to war or terrorism.
If you mean, "When will the planet earth be destroyed," I suppose that will be when the sun gets old enough to destroy the earth. |

When the Sun asplodes all life (all life, not just human life) on Earth will likely be wiped out within 1.5 months.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Serious discussion today folks. Your options are Mass terrorist attack/nukes Global warming Gigantic natural disaster ie massive earthquake/meteor/hurricane Sun Burns out Alien attack Other Please discuss which option you think it most likely to end our planet. [/ QUOTE ] The Yellowstone Caldera is the biggest near-term threat to life, though it's unlikely to extinguish all life. The biggest extinction threat medium-term is robots. The biggest long-term threat is a close proximity supernova. [/ QUOTE ] I like this Yellowstone one. Didn't even enter my mind. I'd like to hear some more thoughts on the robot thing. [/ QUOTE ] Unless the Caldera blows bigger this time than it previously has, it won't wipe out mankind. However, it is behind schedule by a few thousand years, so it might be cooking up something special. If it's just a "normal" eruption, it will just shred the middle of the continent. There's also the possibility of another bigger, badder Krakatoa out there too. As for the robots, if processing power continues to grow more or less like Moore's law, we're about 40-50 years from intelligent, aware robots. I'm not sure how long intelligent robots will want to live as slaves to the man. Couple hundred years? |
