Well, when you take into account the high level of natural attraction women have to males in positions of power with the fact that the sleeping around will likely lead to other benefits in this situation any economist could tell you how common this is. Statistical Studies will tell you the same
PS I'm on the left in politics if anybody is, and not every woman in a position of power has achieved that position via this method by any means.

A bit of advice: if you're new to the working world, feel your way around situations carefully, because there is every type of incest and politics going on. Don't think that doing the right thing and being a good employee is always going to matter; often the most important thing is picking your battles carefully.

I'm trying to decide whether it's good or bad that I've spent extensive undergrad time in a student newspaper with a similar atmosphere of incest and politics. That's always been the one part of it I hated, but maybe it's prepared me to navigate a similar real-life situation a bit better.

Are all offices this way? Someone please tell me no.

Elaine,

Some women advance their careers by sleeping w/ their superiors. Guys are more likely to get undeserved promotions due to superiors being their frat buddies than by sleeping their way there.

Also, ElDiabloIsRight. And ElaineMonster should stop trying to turn everything into a feminist issue.

I'd have to say not every woman, my example:

Condoleeza Rice

The real problem is that you would think that because they're female and attractive that maybe they didn't truly deserve thier jobs and slept with someone to get where they are. Do you think this when you see ugly women in leadership roles? Do you think this when you see men in positions of power?

[/ QUOTE ]

No one assumes this about men because "sleeping to the top" doesn't work for us. Don't think we haven't tried.

[/ QUOTE ]

Heheheh.

For what it's worth, I've seen so many women trying to use their feminine wiles on bosses that to me it's pretty much standard. Kinda sickening actually, not only because it prostitutes the women, but because it changes the work arena into one in which men can't fairly compete.

I was under impression that chicks nowadays sleep with bosses not for raises and promotions but to sue the company for sexual harassment , no?

I'm talking about what I've experienced, to be clearer, and experienced repeatedly. It really depends on what kind of work and work environment you're in, and I wouldn't say it applies universally. And didn't.
