FINALLY got to play Guitar Hero for the first time this past weekend, on the 360!! Looks like I might have to pick up one of these Xbox thingies.... [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Even my wife liked playing it, and that's saying something. The hype is warranted.

All my brother does is play this game, he has 5 stared every song on expert including Jordan. He has just gotten all 1000 achievement points as well. Is this like really that good b/c hes starting to get a little cocky about his GH skills.

Yeah, I have to say that sounds pretty good to me.

Now he can parlay that skill into being a member of an all plastic instruments band.

What's the thing about Guitar Hero that makes people have to be dicks about how it's a useless skill?

All video gaming skills are pretty useless. But you don't hear people say that your Counterstrike skills aren't the same skills you need as a real soldier.

Easy there, killer. I've logged an embarrassing number of button-guitar hours over here too -- I'm making fun of myself as much as anyone else. Sorry if I came across as trying to insult everyone in this thread or something.

And I think that any game where you simulate the action of what you're doing when you play the game is bound to bring out the "useless skill" jokes. My friends/family and I make the exact same types of comments when we're playing Wii golf, tennis, bowling, etc. On some level, it does seem kind of silly to be swinging a little remote control when I could go swing an actual, say, golf club. But there's obvious convenience issues about being able to play in your home, plus it's just fun to feel like your "good" at these things when you nail a solo in guitar hero or a 250 game in bowling or something.

My newb ass is just now starting to 5 star on Easy. I was not using Star Power effectively before, and thought I had to not miss any notes to get 5 stars. I doubt I will ever get that far on Medium, and can't even comprehend Hard or Expert.

Tell him to go to http://www.scorehero.com/ and enter his scores, so he can compare his scores against a lot of REALLY good players.

PS Achievement points really aren't that relevant to HOW good he is. Because once you get to the level of the Best players in the game, all of them are capable of getting all the achievement points. At that point, you have to look at scores to determine how good you are.

If you can 5-star Easy, you can probably 5-star Medium also, especially on the first two tiers. And you'll surprise yourself at how quickly you can become decent at this game. I once had trouble getting 5-stars on Easy also. Within 2 weeks, I was 5-starring medium with no problem. Hard and Expert are another story though.
