Karp, I actually like the valuebet on the end in the KJ hand... call flop min-raise in hand 2

check turn and call reasonable river card or fold if it sux

[/ QUOTE ]

this looks sound, and would be my default play.

how about this for thinking:
a) we think we're probably ahead of villain's range - which may include all sorts of crap that randomly hit that board, but may also include sets, flushes, etc.

b) if we check behind on the turn, villain will be some of the random rubbish (perhaps including a diamond if one comes) and we will often be making a mistake

c) however, if we bet the turn, and villain calls, we can almost certainly fold to a river bet

d) if we bet the turn, we have some fold equity

e) if we bet the turn and get checkraised, we obviously fold

if you're willing to put a little more money into the pot (by calling a reasonable river card if it comes) it would make sense to me to put it in on the turn when you have fold equity, not on the river when you'd be calling a bet sized by your opponent.

[/ QUOTE ]

my thought was to get to showdown cheaply or not at all depending on the river. You have to also consider that if the river is a blank, villain will often donk bluff into you and you get paid off anyway. I don't like building a pot here.

Is it not possible for him to fold a set if we shove the turn? Also, outside of him having a Q in his hand we have 6 outs to win if called. If he has a Q we have 3 outs. I don't think shoving is that horrible here...

Villain is 17/9/2. The other yet to act is 40/2/1. What is my move? Do I call on this dry(ish) board and hope that the other (loose) guy comes along and hope that the main villain keeps on donk-betting? Or raise for vlaue and slight protection?

I remeber aba saying something like this in his video "don't be afraid to play the hand as profitably as possible even though you might get suckouts a bit more often that way."

call the flop min raise, on a blank turn, you definitely need to call another bet, if the flush or an over hits, proceed with caution, but i don't think calling another bet when the flush hits would be bad nec.
if an ace hits and he bets, you can probably fold, he may just be repping the ace, but you dont know if he will do that so for now you can fold there.

He's never folding a set, EVER. Having 3 or 6 outs is not a reason to push with only 3-1 odds, especially since the only hand we beat has 7 outs against us. It's remotely possible he has AJ I guess, but when you're having to stretch like that to find hands you beat, you're beat.

Pokerstove it if you want.
