i have a cat. she's still a kitten really. recently, i left her with my parents when i had to go away for a bit. my parents let her roam outside and come and go as she pleased. now that she's back living with me in my tiny 16th floor apartment, she spends all day standing at the windows and meowing pathetically. is it cruel of me to keep her under these circumstances? should i let my parents have her? they'd love to take her, so it would be no imposistion on them.
Dear Talent, It can be really nice for you to have a pet, but, yeah, it's hard with a tiny apartment. The best solution is actually to get a cat leash and walk your cat like a dog once a day. If you can laugh about it, you should be a chick magnet. |

bison,
2 of my good friends are pretty much best friends with each other. M gets chicks, J doesnt. M has a new roommate move in and starts hooking up with her a lot, J becomes obsessed with her and comes over to see her all the time, thus making things awkward. anything i can do here? its starting to get annoying. rj |

Dear Bison,
Have you put any thought into putting up a FAQ and/or "Best of" Bison ? Though I don't see many repeat questions I'm sure it happens. |

Dear Bison,
I'm 51 years old. 51 year old guys publicly hanging around 15 to 25 year old guys (my estimate of the typical age and gender of OOT) seems pretty creepy. But this is online. I surf OOT four or five times a week for about ten minutes per surf (except Dominic's movie reviews, those I spend some time on). On OOT I learn new stuff about the youth culture, like today I learned that some younger straight men actually shave their hair "down there". I had no idea this was ever done before reading OOT. Is this creepy? ~ Rick |

Dear Bison,
Did Vachel Lindsay really discover Langston Hughes, or was it the other way around? |

Dear Bison,
I'm having trouble finding a poker dealer job. I have 2 years of experience in a private poker room, and can't seem to find interviews for jobs on the Strip without previous experience working on the Strip. How do I break into the business? Sincerely, Nation |

Dear bison,
I love what I do, but my job is very demanding -- to the tune of some 60-70 hour weeks on average. I am pretty well compensated and am on track for a promotion in about 18 months that will push my income into (what I consider) the stratosphere. I also recently became a dad and want to be there for my son. What are some of the things I should consider in deciding whether to keep on my current path or do something else? |

Should I try to publish more of my writing? If so, why?
It's a double-edged sword. For some, the act of publishing or trying to get published inspires them to write more. For others, it burns them out or makes them results-oriented. That having been said, do it. It's worthwhile as a motivating factor, a source of modest income and a way to receive feedback, whether from editors or from an actual reading public. If you're not good enough to get published you'll never improve without rejection and its attendant reevaluations. Now, if I could get my children's books to a lit agent, I'd be a happy man, but I'm incredibly lazy. Do animals have souls? Yes. |
