Seems to me like Phil is guilty of giving away cash and not getting good returns on his investments.

*Side note - Thai-guy has a fat wife stricken with some disease possibly related to a MS Paint accident.

The majority of people are skimming through the details of this story, jumping to this "omg Phil Laak is on TV and a well known poker player, he'd never have risked it all for this!" conclusion. While that assertion may be reasonable in general the allegations cite this all happening before Laak was known. They are based when he was staying in Thailand hustling cards, trying to make a living doing whatever, clearly not the Phil Laak he is today.

It seems to me like there is some truth to the story and I find it unsettling and horribly racist that we discount the storyteller's credibility because he is not one of us and because of his poor command of the English language.

It's pretty laughable that one is less credible if they cannot spell or write very well. Now this guy may be entirely FOS, but there has to be alternate methods to establish his credibility or verify the timeline that doesn't involve pointless attacks on his grammar.
